For a long time, I’ve wanted to write about mental health issues around job hunting. So far, I hadn’t figured out a way into the topic.
But then I had a conversation with my friend Gene Cook, who told me about how he struggled during a period of unemployment. So I asked him to record a conversation with me about what he went through. He’s a fantastic person and I’m so happy he’s come out the other side. I hope you enjoy our talk.
I will be writing more about these issues in the future.
In the meantime, the biggest takeaway from Gene’s story, for me, is: stay social. Connect with people who can support you and keep you going. And ask for help when you need it.
If you are depressed, please get help. This Healthline article is a great starting point with resources on the topic:
How Can I Get Help for Depression?
Talk to you next week. As always, it would mean a lot to me if you would share this with someone who could benefit from it. Onward and upward.
