Job search newsletters that are worth your time
Your inbox is probably full to the brim already.
I get that.
But as part of the research for this newsletter, I subscribe to a lot of other newsletters that purport to help with job hunting.
Many of them are not worth the pixels they are printed on. But some are. Here are a few I would recommend you check out.
Nick Kossovan’s newsletter was one of the first I found when I started this adventure. Totally solid content on every aspect of job searching: LinkedIn, applicant tracking systems, storytelling, psychology, and a lot more. It’s relatable and engaging and worth it.
This one is mainly for entertainment value, because it includes sections like “Stupid Interview Questions,” highlighting the weird and inappropriate things we have all been asked in interviews. But there is also solid content dealing with reader questions about job hunting.
One of the best things about Jan Tegze’s newsletter is the free resources he includes along with his newsletter content: LinkedIn message templates, ChatGPT prompts, LinkedIn post hooks, and more.
Kareem’s Job Search Newsletter
This publication is more corporate than the others I have mentioned, and leans a bit too hard on the “stock image of shaking hands” style. But there’s a lot of good stuff if you’re willing to dig into it. I particularly liked his piece about changing your LinkedIn job titles to match the job you want.
This one is just getting started, but I have high hopes for it. Also it’s fascinating because it goes in the opposite direction from Kareem’s - no graphics at all, just text. The content is trending to finding your place in the job market, something I think older people are contemplating.
So far I have not found any newsletters that focus on job hunting for older people. Let me know if you have found anything like that.
Next week is Christmas! I will be off the grid next week, but back at it right after New Year’s. I wanted to take this time to thank all of you who have been on this journey with me this year. It’s been fun and enlightening writing these posts for you, and I hope you have gotten advice, strategies and encouragement from it.
On to 2024!
